From Chelsea to Dingley Village, Mordialloc to Cheltenham and even Edithvale, Chelsea and Parkdale my family and I have lived in many different suburbs of Kingston over my lifetime so it's fair to say I live and breathe everything Kingston.
I grew up in Cheltenham attending Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) for my primary schooling. My mum Victoria raised her 3 children on her own as a proud single mum. Growing up she taught my brothers and I resilience, strength, and most of all, pure hard work and grit. Values that have stuck with me to this day.
As a kid I had some problems with my eyes that have meant that at last count I've had 13 surgeries to correct my vision and give me the best sight possible. Whilst it has been a challenge, this has given me a unique understanding the world from the perspective of those with sight challenges and makes me determined and passionate about ensuring our community is accessible for everyone, no matter their background.
I attended Kilbreda College for most of my secondary schooling and as a young baller I played basketball with the Mordy Flyers and now play Senior Basketball for South End Spirit at Chelsea and a few other domestic teams. I have a real love of the game and spent most of my teenage years reffereeing local domestic basketball games as well as playing as often as I could. I love watching the NBA and find it a hard choice between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat to pick as my favourite team.
As far as Footy goes, I'm a St Kilda supporter (but don't hold that against me), and have fond memories from my childhood of attending open training sessions down at the old Moorabbin ground with my Nanna Margaret. While Nanna will be watching from heaven, I still hold out hope for the day that the Saints win another premiership.
I joined the Kingston Youth Advisory Committee when I was 14, with a passion for advocating for young people and ensuring that young people had a voice to Council! The committee spearheaded the development of the Kingston Youth Strategy as well as developing events for young people and consultation opportunities across schools to ensure that young people had a say on matters before Council. It was here that I decided to run for Council to continue advocating for positive outcomes within the community.
I was elected to Council in 2016 as a South Ward Councillor, elected Deputy Mayor in 2017/18 and then served two terms as Mayor in 2018/19 and 2019/20. I was then re-elected to Council for a second term in 2020 as the Councillor for Longbeach Ward. I've loved representing our community and being your voice to Council. I'm immensley proud of all of the things we've achieved together.
Outside of Council I run a small business with my husband based locally in Kingston (Braeside). We enjoy the challenges, flexibility and fun that running your own business can bring, but it's also given me a vast set of skills from financial and accounting skills to customer service, human resources management and even marketing. I've also served on the board of the Youth Affairs Council Victoria who represent the young people of Victoria giving them a voice and seat at the table in key decisions before governments.
I love spending time out and about in our community. I enjoy walking my dog Banjo in our local parks and at the beach as well as spending time in our local shopping strips – particularly at cafes with a nice chai latte, smoothie or the local thai restaurants.
I love Kingston, and hope to one day when the time is right raise my own family in this beautiful part of the world.
If you see me out and and about in the community, say hello I'd love to meet you!
